A precautionary boil-water notice for Boynton Beach Utilities customers could be lifted by Thursday afternoon if tests show there are no contaminants in the system, according to a city official.

The notice was issued “in an abundance of caution” Tuesday afternoon following an electrical issue at a water treatment plant, assistant city manager Colin Groff said on the city’s Facebook page.

The issue caused low pressure in affected areas for a short time. All water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes should be boiled for least one minute while the notice is in effect.

“We do not believe there are any issues with the water,” Groff said. “There was no break in the line and no area of contamination.”

Samples were taking from 125 sites throughout the system and tested, Groff said. That process will take place twice before the water can be determined as safe to drink.
