If you'd like to attend public comment for the Tuesday meeting, City Hall is located at 100 N. Andrews Ave. The meeting will be live-streamed on the city's website, www.fortlauderdale.gov.

There's a packed agenda for Tuesday evening's regular Fort Lauderdale city commission meeting. It starts 6 p.m. at Fort Lauderdale City Hall, 100 N. Andrews Ave.

Key issues that are expected to come before the dais include:

  • An amended lease for War Memorial Auditorium
  • Plans for a new mixed-use apartment building near Sistrunk Boulevard
  • A vote on the city's next five-year strategic plan called "Press Play Fort Lauderdale: Our City, Our Strategic Plan 2024."
  • And a review of what Fort Lauderdale's city priorities are for the 2020 legislative session, coming up early next year.

The commission will consider amending the lease for War Memorial Auditorium in Holiday Park. In June, the city entered into a 50-year lease with a social corporation for the Florida Panthers to renovate the auditorium. The renovation would open up the facility to the public for indoor skating, and other sports including indoor soccer and lacrosse. The amended lease would reduce the impact to the existing tree canopy in the park — and would also include a discount program for city residents.

The commission will also consider approving a taller-than usual housing development near Sistrunk Boulevard, which will eventually be called the Adderley Development. Right now, the project's name in the city commission is the West Village. It would be six stories if commissioners approve the maximum height, with 455 apartments and townhouses. 46 of those would be designated as affordable housing, and the rent would be income based. There would also be retail space on the bottom floor. The entire development would take up a block at NW Seventh Terrace, near Flagler Village in Fort Lauderdale.

Commissioners are expected to review and approve the list of Fort Lauderdale's legislative priorities and funding requests to the state for the 2020 legislative session. At the top of that list is a request to the state for funding water and sewage infrastructure improvements.

Infrastructure is one of the six areas that the new long-term vision for the city will try to address. The second, five-year strategic plan for the city will also look to advance other areas of the city including: public places, neighborhood enhancement, business development, public safety and internal support. The goal is to make city decisions more in-line with the city's vision plan for 2035. Annual reports will get delivered to the city commission, if commissioners adopt the new strategic planat Tuesday's meeting.

There is currently still a precautionary boil-water notice in effect for a portion of downtown residents. A water main underneath the New River broke Monday, just east of the Andrews Avenue bridge, and needed emergency repairs.
