Why did some in Cape Coral lose water for hours today?
City crews rapidly repaired a 10-inch water main break today that left a key portion of the region without critical services.
The main was broke before 1 p.m. and fixed by 2 p.m. after the city reported it could be hours.
A precautionary boil water notice will be in effect until clearance is received from the Lee County Health Department.
According to the city, homes, schools and businesses were affected.
They included the Publix shopping center at Burnt Store and Pine Island roads, Lee County Public Library, Jim Jeffers Park, Blue Water Coach homes, and other locations.
Schools left without water were Mariner Middle and High schools and Christa McAuliffe Elementary.
The region affected is just south of where water lines are being built.
