Fort Lauderdale city workers are on the scene of yet another water leak Monday, this one in the vicinity of Broward Boulevard and Southeast Eighth Avenue.

The emergency repairs on the 6-inch water main will impact the nearby area, which will experience low or no water pressure while the repairs are being completed.

As a precaution, the city is issuing a boil water notice for the following properties: 800 E. Broward Blvd (The Cumberland Building); 100 SE Eighth Ave.; 104 SE Eighth Ave.; 108 SE Eighth Ave.

The Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until two consecutive days of passing test results are received.

Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

On Monday afternoon, crews were cutting asphalt in preparation for digging work, city spokesman Chaz Adams said in an email.

Once clearance to dig is received, crews will begin excavation work to expose the damaged area of pipe and proceed with repairs.

A traffic advisory also is in effect. The southernmost eastbound lane of Broward Boulevard is closed from Federal Highway to Southeast Eighth Avenue, and drivers won’t be able to access southbound Eighth Avenue from Broward Boulevard. Northbound traffic on Southeast Eighth Avenue will be detoured to Federal Highway via Southeast First Street.

Neighbors with questions may call the city’s 24-Hour Neighbor Call Center at 954-828-8000.
