The City of Cape Coral responded to two separate water main breaks in one area of north Cape Coral Friday night. Homes in the affected area went without running water for several hours.

According to the city, two breaks occurred in the area of 2049 Santa Barbara Boulevard. The breaks happened around 2:17 p.m. A fire hydrant break was the first incident in the affected area.

The city’s public information specialist told us crews repaired the water main but were still installing a new valve at the intersection of Santa Barbara and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The city told us saturated ground due to all the rain tends to cause more breaks because the pipes move and shift in the soft soil.

The city is still working to confirm how many homes were affected

Crew members told us that water has been returned to homes, but that city has yet to confirm the entire status.
