Damaged fire hydrant leads to boil water notice in Weirsdale

A precautionary boil water notice was issued Monday for 160 customers in the Weirsdale area after damage caused a fire hydrant to temporarily lose pressure.

The order affects about 160 customers, according to a spokesperson for Marion County Utilities.

The affected customers are being notified via interactive voice response calls. They are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least a minute if it will be used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice or washing dishes. Residents east of Southeast 122nd Terrace may opt to use bottled water.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey performed at least 48 hours after repairs are completed shows that the water is safe to drink. The water will be tested and customers will be notified by door hanger and interactive voice response reverse 911 calls when the precautionary boil water notice is lifted.

Customers with questions should call Marion County Utilities at (352) 307-6000.
