Vote in GRU contest for 'flushables' slogan

Staff report

Who says your voice doesn't matter?

Gainesville Regional Utilities customers have a chance to choose between one of three "Flushables" campaign slogans and voters in the online contest, which runs until Oct. 14, will be entered in a random drawing to win bathroom-themed prizes.

Blocked sewer pipes and sewer overflows have been a chronic issue for the utility, and GRU officials have suggested that residents shouldn't flush things like cooking grease and "flushable" wipes, which wreak havoc on the city's sewer system.

A news release about the contest said the slogan will replace the city's Think Before You Flush campaign. The three slogan contenders are: Your Toilet is Not a Trashcan, The Unflushables and Flush Responsibly.

Vote at http://www.gru.com/flushables. Fifteen winners will be chosen at random for prizes that include mini bidets, aromatherapy shower kits, shower speakers and more.
