Reported sewage spill in Crestview
Staff report
CRESTVIEW — About 1,000 to 2,000 gallons of untreated sewage was accidentally discharged into the storm water system by Juniper Creek on Saturday afternoon, according to a city report issued to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The spill began at 4:30 p.m. while workers were checking on a leaking force main at 500 Rasberry Road.
When workers went to bypass the lift station, they caused the station to back up and sewage to discharge out of a manhole for about 20 minutes, a city official said in the report.
The affected area was disinfected with hydrated lime, according to the report.
