UPDATE 5 p.m.

Gulf Breeze residents and businesses in Gulf Breeze are also under a precautionary boil water notice. The notice, issued Thursday afternoon, will remain in effect for at least two days.

Those affected include residents who live in the 32561 ZIP code, in or around the west side of Highway 98 and the Andrews Institute.

Also, the Bagdad Garcon Point Water System has issued a precautionary boil water notice for Mary Kitchens Road south to Avalon Boulevard and from Avalon Sanchez Court south to Garcon Point Road.

Residents are advised to boil all water used for cooking, drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes.  A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.  Bottled water may be used as an alternative.  Tap water can also be disinfected by adding eight drops of unscented household bleach to each gallon of water, then mixing the water and allowing it to stand for a minimum of 30 minutes.

ORIGINAL STORY

All Emerald Coast Utilities Authorities customers are under a precautionary boil water notice.

ECUA Executive Director Bruce Woody said the boil water notice was issued because numerous broken water lines across Escambia County have to be repaired.

"ECUA crews have been out in the field locating where we have problems trying to isolate those wherever we can order to regain system pressures," Woody said.

Woody said the majority of ECUA customers still have water, but there are too many repair areas needed to issue individual boil water notices for specific streets.

The boil water notice will likely be in place for several days.

"Once we have a reasonably smaller list that we can better maintain, it will revert back to our normal process of issuing individual notices based on each specific repair," Woody said.

The boil water notice calls for residents to boil water for one minute at a rolling boil or to use eight drops of regular unscented household bleach per gallon of water, for water to be used for drinking or cooking purposes.
