Beheaded alligator dumped in upscale Brevard County neighborhood
WEBVTT -- AND NEIGHBORS ARE STUCK WITH IT. >> WOW. HORRIBLE. DAN: IT’S MORE HORRIBLE THAN YOU THINK. YOU CAN’T SMELL IT. NOR ARE WE GOING TO LET YOU SEE THE GORIER DETAILS. BUT WE CAN TELL YOU THE FLORIDA WILDLIFE COMMISSION ESTIMATES THE HEADLESS GATOR AT MORE THAN 9 FEET. FOLKS IN THE TIMBERS WEST NEIGHBORHOOD HERE IN ROCKLEDGE HAVE THEIR OWN ESTIMATES. DINA WUISMAN: IT’S HUGE. I THINK THIS THING WAS PROBABLY 11 OR 12 FEE BILL WUISMAN: WE’VE LIVED HERE A LONG TIME, AND I’VE NEVER SEE ANYTHING THAT SIZE. A JOGGER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS THE FIRST ONE TO SPOT IT SHE FOUND IT BY SMELL JUST LAYING RIGHT WHERE SOMEBODY DUMPED IT NEAR THE ROAD. THE HEAD AND TAIL ARE GONE. DAN: THE NEIGHBORHOOD BORDERS SOME WETLANDS THAT DRAIN INTO THE ST. JOHNS RIVER. PLENTY OF GATORS THERE BILL WUISMAN: PRETTY HORRIBLE TO SEE SOMEBODY DO THIS AND LEAVE IT IN THE YARD LIKE THIS. IT’S JUST UNBELIEVABLE. DAN: IT’S ILLEGAL TO KILL A GATOR OUT OF SEASON. IT COULD MEAN JAIL TIME IF ANYONE’S ARRESTED. BUT FWC OFFICERS ADMIT WHOEVER DID IT DIDN’T EXACTLY LEAVE THEIR PHONE NUMBER RESIDENTS WERE AFRAID THEY WOULD BE STUCK WITH IT BUT A CITY PUBLIX WORKGROUP HALTED OFF TO THE DUMP. >> TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE BOB: WHAT A -- DAN: FWC SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT AWAY. THE TRASH COLLECTION AGENCY WAS NOT GOING TO DO IT EITHER. IMAGINE LETTING THE VULTURES TAKE CARE OF IT. THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Somebody illegally killed and beheaded a monster alligator and then dumped it in an upscale Rockledge neighborhood. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission estimates the headless gator to be more than nine feet, while residents of the Timbers West neighborhood where it was found say it was probably 11 or 12 feet. A jogger in the neighborhood was the first one to spot it – she found it by smell – just laying right where somebody dumped it near the road. The head and tail are gone. The neighborhood borders some wetlands that drain into the St. Johns River. FWC officers admit whoever did it didn’t exactly leave their phone number. About all the FWC officer could do Thursday was cover the gator up. So, for now, people who live in the neighborhood are stuck with it.
