BRADENTON BEACH, Fla. — It's been a while, but red tide is popping up again.
A sample taken Monday at the Longboat Pass boat ramp in Sarasota Bay returned a very low level of the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
While last year's outbreak of red tide spurred images of dead fish and deserted beaches, there have been no reported incidents of fish kills or respiratory irritation related to red tide in the past week.
FWC reports there was a very low concentration of red tide found in Sarasota County this month, but conditions there appear to have improved per the agency's daily sample map.
Red tide also appeared in at very low levels in a sample collected May 8 in Charlotte County.
