(Updated 2:15 p.m. Thursday) The boil water notice for Marion County Utilities customers in Salt Springs has been rescinded.

"Utilities has recorded the mandated number of successful bacteriological surveys to deem the water safe to drink and thereby has lifted the boil water notice for this community," a news release states.

(Original article) A water main break has prompted Marion County Utilities to issue a precautionary boil water notice for 174 customers in the Salt Springs community.

Residents are being notified by telephone and social media, according to a news release.

All tap water being used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice or washing dishes should be brought to a rapid boil for at least one minute before use, the release states.

Residents may wish to use bottled water instead.

Water used for laundry, baths or showers does not need to be boiled.

The notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink. Customers will be notified.
