DeLand utility customers won't be back-billed following the discovery of a clerical error that resulted in nearly 13,000 accounts being under-billed for sewer service this month, an official said.

The clerical error was found, and fixed, Sept. 11, and current bill rates have been adjusted, city spokesman Chris Graham said.

In anticipation of the next fiscal year, the rates were adjusted at the end of August, but they reverted back to the previous year's rate, resulting in 12,925 customers being under-billed at a rate of $0.16 per thousand gallons, Graham said.

More than 300 customers were over-billed and credited in that amount, Graham said.

An exact figure wasn't immediately available, but Graham said the city estimates it lost several thousand dollars.
