PCB boil water notice set during main repair

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Officials have set a boil water notice to start Sunday ahead of repairs to Panama City Beach’s main water line.

The boil water notice is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and last through the week or until repairs are complete.

Residents might experience discolored water within 24 hours after the boil water notice begins. As a precaution, residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing of dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

The city will publicly issue a rescission lifting the boil water notice when the water is tested and determined safe to drink.

A leak was discovered in a buried transmission pipeline located on U.S. Highway 79, immediately south of the West Bay Bridge by School Road on Monday. The problem stems from a faulty gasket on a valve assembly, officials have said.

The pipe services roughly 60% of Panama City Beach and its surrounding unincorporated Bay County areas. The leak is expected to cost more than $300,000 to repair.
