Several pieces of land across the Valley are considered to be hazardous waste sites.

Certain Superfund sites across the nation are added to a special National Priorities List, or NPL, by the Environmental Protection Agency, which is described as the "most serious uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites identified for possible long-term remedial response."

Maricopa County has seven total Superfund sites that are on the NPL.

Take a look at the map below to see where toxic waste locations deemed NPL Superfund sites are located in Maricopa County.

A majority of these listed locations have "no known exposures to contaminants of concern in excess of applicable health based screening levels," but each location goes into further detail about soil, groundwater, and soil vapor usage and testing.

Clicking on each location on the above map will provide detailed information about the contaminants and the risks they pose to public health from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

The locations marked in map are approximated using information obtained by the Arizona Department of Environmental Equality. To see a list of all of the NPL Superfund sites in Arizona, click here.
