Overnight, crews in Fort Lauderdale repaired a pipe break for the seventh time in the last month — but at least this time sewage wasn’t flooding the streets.

A contractor working in the area of Northeast Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue struck a 12-inch water main on Wednesday afternoon, which sent water flooding the streets of Victoria Park.

Water service was restored, but a precautionary boil-water notice remains in effect. The order includes properties on Northeast Second Street to Northeast Fifth Street between Northeast Seventh Avenue and Northeast Ninth Avenue.

The notice will remain in effect until bacteriological surveys show that the water is safe to drink.

Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

Officials closed the intersection of Northeast Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue while they were repairing the break.

Officials said the water main break is not related to the sewage cleanup and the work to replace a 16-inch pipe in Victoria Park.
