Ensuring we have clean water is an ongoing challenge in Southwest Florida. The News-Press, Naples Daily News and USA TODAY Network-Florida have dedicated a team of journalists to cover the environment with a significant investment in the issues and the people tied to saving our water.

Now, more than ever, is the time to act and to focus on practical and effective solutions.

On Aug. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, we will convene the community once again for a Save Our Water summit, featuring experts from science, health, local business, education and government, as well as our award-winning journalists.

Among the speakers and panelists will be Noah Valenstein, the secretary for Florida's Department of Environmental Protection. There will panels, including one with regional legislators that will take a closer at what has happened in the Florida legislature and what to expect during the upcoming session, and another with representatives from the agencies responsible for managing the water.

The summit will also include a special segment on water quality and the impact on public health and safety, led by News-Press environment reporter Amy Williams.

And more voices from the community will be featured with a focus on personal advocacy and calls to action.

This year we have partnered with the Southwest Florida Alliance of Chambers, a group of seven regional chambers of commerce who have banded together to help with prioritizing the agenda from a local state perspective and putting the spotlight on the best solutions.

We're also happy to have the Conservancy of Southwest Florida back as an event sponsor.

This is the third Save Our Water summit since 2016.
