Section of U.S. 1 in St. Lucie County reopened after water main break

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — All lanes of a section of northbound U.S. 1 that were closed after a water main break this week are reopened as of Friday afternoon, an official said.

A private contractor on Monday broke a water main operated by the city of Port St. Lucie  near U.S. 1 and Prima Vista Boulevard, causing heavy flooding.

Northbound U.S. 1 lanes between Prima Vista and Rio Mar Drive were closed after the incident, said Jenny Tomes, utility marketing and digital video coordinator with the city.

The utility portion of the repairs are complete, and the water main and service were restored Monday night for the 56 commercial and six residential customers impacted by the incident.

The northbound lanes are were reopened by Friday afternoon.

A detour had been in effect: Motorists were advised to go east on Prima Vista Boulevard to Lennard Road to Kitterman Road and back to to U.S. 1.
